Q5Life
Four quarters for them. One for you.
The quarter that isn't on the calendar.
The calendar has four quarters, and they touch. Q4 closes at midnight and Q1 opens a second later. There is no gap. Nobody schedules the quarter where you get your life back, so it never comes.
It got worse when the office moved into the house. The laptop lives on the kitchen table. There is no door to close and no commute to end the day. Work time and your time used to be two places. Now they are one room, and work is the one that expands.
Q5 is the quarter that isn't on the calendar. It is not a season. It is a decision. A week in a lodge you can only reach by plane, with your phone in a box. Ninety minutes between meetings spent somewhere worth the walk. A Sunday you don't spend catching up.
It is also a state of mind. Nobody hands the time back, so you claim it. An hour, an afternoon, a week. You mark it as yours and stop reporting to anyone, yourself included. The lodge and the walk are just ways to do it on purpose.
We make three things for it. An out-of-office message worth reading. An app that turns found time into one good thing to do. A trip, twice a year, with people who also won't tell you what they do.
Nothing to report.
Three things for it.
